What is a Hari Malaysia?

To be honest, I have no idea what exactly Hari Malaysia is. We have our Merdeka Day ever since we got our independence 53 years ago. So what is a Malaysian Day? All I know is that 16th of September was the date Malaya changed its name to Malaysia and Sabah & Sarawak joined in..... If I'm not mistaken.....
HAHAHA.. I never really paid much attention in history classes back when I was in school. In Malaysian education, history was made boring. hahahahha...

Then I stumble upon this advertisement by DIGI. It's a really funny video/ad, everyone should watch this.
But being a Malaysian isn't just about eating sambal belacan and a funny video. It's about how different races liking the same thing, having the same thoughts/ideas or treasuring the same land we call home. And when we modify that one thing according to our preferences and traditions, it makes us unique. It makes us Malaysians. So,
Selamat Hari Merdeka to every Malaysian out there. Doesn't matter where you are, or whether you had become a citizen of another country, you're still a Malaysian deep inside.

It's that time of the year again for us 'Muscovites'. Away from home and family, most of us feel a pang of sadness and wishing that we are at home in Malaysia with our loved ones. But just look at those smiling faces. We are glad to have each other on this joyous day of Eid Fitri. It makes Aidilfitri here in Moscow bearable.

I started my class today with a neurology cycle. OH MY GOODNESS.. my temporary teacher was so scary! I wanted to hang myself due to fright, but she killed me before I could find any rope. HAHAHA..... but I did learn a whole lot of things today. Let's just say she's 'awesomely scary'

Then I had topography anatomy class. Had it with my previous semester's teacher, thank God. But I just arrived in Moscow yesterday, didn't prepare anything before class. So he was disappointed with everyone because we came to class unprepared... bummer

Uhh lots of things to prepare, assignments to do for next Wednesday class.... my brain is still a bit rusty from the long holiday.

Bahulu time!!

My granny and Aunt Sue made kuih bahulu today and I went to help... errr sort of. hehehe... Tolong tengok and makan saje HAHAHA... They are actually baking this favorite kiuh raya early so I can bring back to Moscow. Will be leaving in 2 days time...which makes me sad every time I think about it. I'm SO NOT excited to go back to Moscow. I don't even feel like packing.

Oh well, let's just enjoy the bahulu in the making. Feast your eyes! OMG I'm so evil, I know ya all want some of these superduperdeliciousmalicious bahulu.

It's a crime to eat these kind of bahulu. My granny's bahulu recipe is extra sweet, extra fattening, but extra delicious.

Using the traditional way of making bahulu makes it more delicious in comparison to oven bake.

Yup. We used charcoal. It's a tedious job, but this traditional method makes this bahulu extraordinary.

This traditional method of bahulu making will be coming to an end very soon. Younger generations, like me aren't willing to go through this tedious method. Most people now uses the oven instead. It is kinda sad to see how this tradition is fading through time.

5 minutes had pass and I'm still thinking of a title for this post. I wonder if I can leave it blank. Or shall I title it : Co Do sucks. HAHAHAHA....

OK I went to hang out with some friends in Midvalley. My goodness, today was a wrong day to go out. It took me more then 30minutes to find parking and I fought with some auntie for a parking space! And there were a sea of human in mid valley. I've never seen a shopping mall that packed.

Anyway, this post is actually about a Vietnamese restaurant in Mid Valley. We ate at Co Do restaurant. The price is fairly affordable. A set meal cost us RM22 each. But halfway through our food, we were all quiet until Nadiah broke the silent with a laugh.

Nadiah : hahahaha... kenape we all senyap je?

Me : I'm thinking of running down to the food court to buy some kuehtiaw goreng basah. And I'm also thinking about what I should buy to eat after this bland and DRY meal.

Nadiah : *LOL* I'm thinking of the same thing.

I had to force myself to finish my chargrilled chicken. I didn't really touch my rice. Nadiah didn't even finish anything. And Linda had to finish hers because she felt it's bad to throw food. Honestly, I think I can get better food at a much cheaper price in the food court.

Went to i-City in Shah Alam last Friday with my family. It was alright I guess. I mean the lights are pretty and colorful, but that was just it. I was expecting it to be like Tokyo. I saw my brother's Tokyo pictures, and the trees (real ones) decorated with lights were awesome. But in i-City, we were treated with weird looking plastic trees that emits light. The place was crowded with all walks of life though.

While waiting for my cookies to bake today, I went out to my garden and I found a dragonfly resting on my mom's potted plant or what's left of it after being eaten by a caterpillar : here

After taking a few pictures, I lost my balance and fell on my butt and the little dragonfly flew away :(

My mom and I made cookies today. I almost felt like I'll be celebrating Aidilfitri here in Malaysia. Unfortunately I'm not because I'm forced to go back in 5 days... I feel like crying now. How I wish I could stay for another 2 weeks to celebrate Raya with my family....

I really miss preparing for Raya. I used to grumble every time Raya is approaching because I had to help with all the cleaning and cooking. We can't let the maid do everything can we?

And I'll always end up tired. But to be honest, I miss being dead tired on 'hari bantai' because it makes Aidilfitri a lot more meaningful than just a celebration.

FYI, 'hari bantai' is when everybody would be cooking and cleaning for Raya celebration on the next day. I don't know why it's called 'hari bantai' but that's what my family calls it.

Had fun playing with the camera with my bro yesterday night. We tried long exposure and light tracing. Of course my brother became the model who had to spin and move around. After more than an hour, my brother got tired and dizzy because I asked him to twirl so many times HAHAHAHA!!

My dad found a caterpillar after it has feasted on my mom's potted plant.

This was how my mom's plant looked like before being feasted on by the caterpillar. I'm glad that I took this picture earlier.

And this is how the plant looks now. My mom is gonna flip when she sees what happened to her flowers HAHA!!

My little Catey looking all plump-up after eating the whole plant. And yes, the brown thingy is his poop. HAHAHA.... It was funny the way he discharge waste, unfortunately I didn't get pictures of the process. It was so brief. haha..

So I kept the caterpillar overnight. Thought of taking pictures of him in broad daylight.

And today when I went to check on him, the leaves that I left for him was all crumpled up. I thought it had died. But then I realized he was hiding within the leaves. And his color had change.

Yup... he's actually getting ready to turn into a pupa. I'm keeping him until he turns into a beautiful butterfly. This way I can save him from being eaten by birds.

*But seriously, I don't know Catey's gender. Let's just pretend its a 'he' with a girly name.

My grandmother has more than 100 chickens in her kebun. Her mother hens are so fat, I felt the desire to chase them around just to see if they can run with that kind of weight hahaha... But my granny stopped me from doing so. She said chickens will fall sick if they were chased.

And then there are these cuties... My granny rear rabbits too. She has more than 30 now, including tiny newborns.

Not an easy task to make them sit still...

My Singapore trip was awesome. I wasn't that excited about the trip at first, since I thought the tiny Land of Merlion would be the same as Kuala Lumpur but with more Chinese instead of Malays. But boy was I wrong. The climate, food, language etc might probably be the same, but KL is never near Singapore.

I couldn't find one piece of trash on the streets of Singapore.

I don't see any hooligans around, and it's very safe to roam around the city even at 2am.

I don't see many people smoking in public areas.

The city tour then brought us to China Town. Every country has a China Town, and in Malaysia have our very own Chow Kit market. But I dare not step foot on Chow Kit road. Yes, this is me comparing Malaysia and Singapore again haha...

If you ask me, I'd say those dolphins have an illness that made them pink. Something like an albino animal.

But you have to give them credits for that amazing jump and twirl.

After watching a 4D short film, my aunt was exhausted. So she decided to rest at a cafe while I roam around the butterfly & bird park alone.

My goodness they put up a magnificent water screen show. It was so beautiful that it left everyone in awe.

Everyone knows that I'm itching to get my hands on a Nikon dslr. So today I finally decided to get one since I'll be making a short trip to Singapore this coming Thursday.

I decided not to go for a D90 because I'm a newbie and I know nuts about photography. Besides D90 became too expansive after my previous shopping spree. hahahha.. Honestly, I'm kinda off budget already. So please don't expect me to buy anyone any souvenirs.

Anyway, after coming back from Mines (where I bought my Nikie), I stopped at my grandmother's nasi ayam shop for lunch. Just within minutes after I arrived, we heard a loud bang in front of the shop. One stupid lorry on its round delivering ice crashed onto my mom's Chevrolet that I parked in front of my granny's shop!!

I was like 'OHH SHIT!!!! I'm dead!'

Though it wasn't my fault, and the lorry driver admit it was his fault, I was still shaken. I've never gotten into any accident before (Alhamdullilah), so when something like this happened, I was totally shocked. Lucky there were many customers in the shop who saw how the lorry bang into my car and backed me up by saying it was clearly the lorry driver's fault.

And I was glad my dad was on his way back from work and he managed to settle with the ice company's boss. One problem will occur soon when my mom gets home from work and she sees what happened to her Chevrolet. How am I gonna explain it to her??? :((

Pikir sendiri kerana Allah. Tak pikir, mampuih la (mampusla)....

Ni cerita Pak Lebai Kg Sentosa. Pak Lebai ni kan, alaa hai tak tau nk ckp ape dah.. memang la lepas dia azan boleh berdakwah ke berkhutbah ke ape ke... memang la tak kisah langsung. But his speech is SO inappropriate. Ape la agaknye kalau orang asing dengar macam ni, mesti diorg bersangka buruk terhadap Islam. Ni snippet je yg aku edit, tak sanggup nak post the whole speech sebab boleh menimbulkan pergaduhan antara kaum/agama. Ramai org kampung lain pon tak brape suke lebai ni cakap2 kasar mcm gini, tapi ape boleh buat, dah dia lebai kampung.

Haritu kawan mama ade datang, dia and anak2 dia tergelak bila dengar lebai tu cakap macam ni lepas azan.

And I have to listen to it day in and day out since my house is next to the surau... hahahaha..hai lebai oh lebai.....

Ice Cream Potong : A taste of Malaysia on a stick

I was stuck in a bottleneck traffic jam today. That stupid roadwork block near Semenyih has been there for way too long already. And because I was afraid that my Potong ice cream would melt, I had to eat it in the car. Man..... I could almost say that one of the best things in life is on a stick..hahaha...I have been craving for aiskrim potong for a very long time now, and today I get to satisfy my craving. I ate 4 sticks of that ice cream while I was stuck in the snail paced traffic.

Each day I wake up with question : What shall I do today?

Malaysia isn't as fun anymore when each and every friend of mine are either busy studying or working. Most of them are busy from Monday to Friday, which leaves me alone and miserable.

I've been in Malaysia for more than 2 weeks now, and B.O.R.E.D.O.M is seeping in faster then I can spell it!

I had tonnes of fun when I came back last year. My besties Dila was still in Malaysia, Syarifah didn't have much classes, Ika was on holiday, Pian & Arif came back for summer...

This year's summer break is a bit different; friends flew overseas, some had graduated and started working, some continue with their master's degree and as busy as ever......

*sigh*

Maybe I should go to a spa and pamper myself today....

Concern parents, Selfish drivers

As I was waiting for my mother to come down from her tuition center earlier today, my attention was caught by a red Mitsubishi which has disturbed the free flow of traffic on an already narrow road. The driver was a parent waiting for his/her child to come down from the tuition center. He/She wasn't double parking, but 'triple' parking. Big cars like Pajero and MPVs had extreme difficulties passing through, and yet the driver of that Mitsubishi Triton didn't have the courtesy to move.

Yes, I do understand that the parents might probably be afraid that their child couldn't find their own way to the car if the parents would have parked further away. But to obstruct the traffic when driving a big car like that is just selfish. Moreover, I noticed that there were 2 people in the car. One parent could have just got down from the car and wait for the child so other parent could park further.

Anyone living in Semenyih would know that the old part of Semenyih Town has narrow roads. And I'm sure the other drivers were cursing under their breath. I really hope we drivers would respect each by not being selfish behind the wheel.

Practicals in Russia : a waste of our time

I started my hospital practicals today... and I only have one word to describe it : FUTILE

All I got to see today was intramuscular injections. Or shall I say that I only saw 6 buttocks today.

Yes, it was pointless because we weren't allowed to do the injections, we only observed. So much for practical skills mastering eh?

Since we were in a large group, we were assigned to 3 different hospitals. And in each hospitals, we were further sub-grouped to 3-4 per nurse. So those who got assigned under a scrub nurse will get a chance to see surgeries (maybe). While the rest of us (most of us) only wasted our time doing pointless stuff. Some of us were asked to clean the pantry, some had to arrange medicine bottles, some even did nothing and drank tea!

And because we are only 3rd year students, our practical only consist of nursing practice and we are not assigned to doctors. What a bummer....

Actually this is the first time we Malaysian students had to do our practicals here in Russia and not back home. For the past years, seniors have been doing hospital attachments in Malaysia. But this year the rules have changed and we are not allowed to do in Malaysia anymore all thanks to this man :

Thank you Tan Sri, for making us stay here and waste our time.

I hope we can do our practicals in Malaysia next year, because if we can't, then we are screwed.

Russian Military Bunker & Metropolis : Recipe for an aching feet

I went for an group excursion today. I visited a Russia's top secret military bunker that was used during the Cold War in the 1950s. I experienced what it was like to be 65 meters underground. It was kinda scary being in a dark and gloomy bunker. I'll tell more about that experience in the next post, since I'm totally exhausted now.. haha...

The excursion didn't tire me tho, it was the shopping afterwards that made me feel like I'm walking on nails now..

YES, I went shopping again, 4th time in this week alone.. my goodness, I just can't help myself. What can a shopaholic like me do at times of sale?? I did not plan to shop anymore this week.

OK here's what actually happened. After the excursion, I was hungry. I didn't have time to eat anything before I left my room, I was running late. So I followed some friends to the Metropolis mall for lunch. And I did told myself that I should go back after lunch..... but..... the shops were on big sale.. One shop lead to another, thus plastic shopping bags started filling my two hands.

My friends and I went out of the mall at 11pm when the mall was about to close.. hahaha!!! It was fun shopping with my fellow shopaholic friends, Farah & Hanis. What can we do? We're shopaholics hehehe....

But I swear in the name of my dear blog, today is the last time I'm gonna go shopping... Because at this rate, I'll be broke by the end of the month.

I hope I can keep this promise hahahhaha...

Practicals are starting VERY soon, and I'm spending what's left of my holiday by going out almost everyday.. hahaha... and yes, yesterday I went shopping.......... AGAIN

At this rate, I think I'll be broke in a month HAHAHA!!

Though yesterday's shopping trip with Ann wasn't really worth it because the mall we went to hasn't really start its sale on a full scale yet. But it was fun walking from one store to another looking at stuff and 'tagging' items in our heads. When the sale starts (towards the end of August), we'll be going again to get those items we've tagged hehe...

Oh by the way, I did managed to get myself my first ever skinny jeans. I never wanted to wear one since I felt it will be uncomfortable. But Ann convinced me to get one because skinnies are in trend now, and she said it'll be ok once I get used to it. Oh well, and so I got my first skinny jeans from MNG.

And now I have to go soak my feet in warm water and massage my aching feet... I knew I should have done this before going to sleep yesterday.... what a bummer to wake up with an aching feet.

Shopping is what I was born to do

Summer sale has just started here in Moscow. And I couldn't just waste my time by staying in my room watching Korean dramas everyday, I HAD to go shopping.. haha....

I went shopping yesterday, and I went shopping again today...
Yesterday's was nothing tho, I would have to call it 'engine-warming'. LOL!
And now I'm ready for more. Next stop : Metropolis.. more shops, more stuff, more sale!

Ahhhh... what a great day out.... I wanna go shopping again soon. Let's consider this shopping spree as a therapy because I have to stay here for another month due to my hospital practicals :(( I'm dying to be back home now and I miss my family terribly... so to soothe my aching heart and my frustration, retail therapy is the best remedy.

Hello everyone... my oh my... just look at the date of my last blog post. It has been that long huh? Well I was so busy with exams and all, I just couldn't find the time to blog.....

*clears throat* ok that's not entirely true.. Yes I had a lot of exams, but the main reason for my long absence was because I was plain lazy to write anything.... and thus, I left this blog stone cold.. haha....

Anyways, I just came back from my friends' apartment after spending a night there. We ate and hung out, and ate some more, and we talk and joke about nonsense things, and watch stupid videos... haha... It's very refreshing to hang out like this after all those killer exams. I almost died you know!!

I was studying earlier when I came across 'gynecomastia'. I knew what it was, but never actually seen one. I have never seen pictures of it, much less see it with my own eyes. So I decided to wiki it. This came out.

If you are well aware, arguments between different racial backgrounds has been going on and on for centuries, especially in countries where there are a few main races that make up the major society.

If you are still wondering what I am.... let me enlighten with the fact that I'm 3/4 Chinese and 1/4 Malay. My daddy is Chinese (Baba to be exact) and mommy is Chinese+Malay (who was brought up in a very Malay way).

So anyways, I was on skype with my family back home, when my dad and mom had this tiny 'argument' about whether the Chinese being better than Malays.
Ohh but don't get me wrong here. Of course we are not racist! If my parents are, they wouldn't have been married all these while right? hahaha...
It's just that sometimes, when my dad started having his 'sense of pride' --->as what I like to call it, and my mom starts having the need to defend her own race, it gets really funny.... And my brother and I was laughing all along looking at our parents presenting their statements.

Isn't Malaysia a wonderful place? With different ethnicity that makes us unique..
So the next time you pass by someone with a different racial background, please be generous with your smile.

I wanted to translate this line:

I know what 가끔씩 is. And 바람이, also 가슴이. But not the other 2 words.

Google translated it as:

HAHAHAHA!!! I had a great laugh. wet boobies!!!!

This is an interesting topic to talk about, since everyone would go through this situation from time to time.

#1 Controlling urethral sphincter.

Most of us usually do this automatically when we start feeling the urge to pee. Here's a tip for a better control. Instead of contracting every muscle in the pelvic area, try to isolate the muscles surrounding the urethra. External sphincter muscle of urethra is a skeletal muscle, so it is possible to control this muscle (voluntary). So focus in squeezing this muscle and relax other pelvic and abdominal muscles to avoid putting more pressure on the bladder.

#2 Position

If you are standing, cross your legs. This helps compressing the urethral muscles.

If you are sitting, do NOT cross your legs. Crossing one leg over the knee makes the thighs to be raised towards abdomen. This will lead to the compression of bladder and thus, loss of bladder control. So sit up-right and relax. Do not slump over and arch your spine a little, but do not extend the abdomen. These positions will take pressure off the pelvic region.

#3 Minimize intake of fluid.

It's wise not to drink or consume any food containing lots of fluid until you find a loo. Your body won't be dehydrated that quickly. Besides, if you have a lot to excrete, you must have a lot to drink before right?

#4 Avoid rapid movements.

Don't move around too much. It is best to remain seated or remain standing, which ever your initial positions are. If you feel the need to change position, make your movements as light as possible. Avoid jolting and abrupt movements, because this will shake the bladder. When you are holding it in, avoid any movements that will make the bladder shake. So keep you pelvic floor tighten.

Do not run, instead walk to the bathroom.

#5 Stay focus

Focusing on holding it in and not thinking about letting it out until you find a toilet. Think about something else and not a toilet while you are searching for one.

Remember, there is no way you bladder can burst while holding pee. It's just an instinct, in which the body is telling the brain to find a toilet fast..... or else it'll explode.

hahahaha.. I can't help but laugh at the last line.

Hope this little tip helps. It did for me.

It was just a few days ago when all of us felt afraid just being outside. But surprisingly, life goes on as usual. Of course we try to remind ourselves to be cautious all the time. And also reminding ourselves that there are lots of people mourning at the moment. I still feel some eeriness every time I pass or use Park Kultury metro station. But as I've said, life goes on.....

Pharmacology & The lucky guy

We are supposed to have a class at 3.20PM but our beloved Bondarchuk postponed our class today to 5PM, which she still came late for. It was nearly 7PM when we finally saw her. I kinda pity her because when another teacher is on sick leave, she has to handle a lot of classes on her own. But we got really tired of waiting..... so we played with the camera. Cam-freaks never know when to give it a break

Many of us didn't dare to go to class today. When we heard about the stories from first years who managed to go to classes in Ismailovskaya yesterday, we got scared. According to first years, the minute they stepped into the metro on their way home, everybody else got out. And the few who remained in the train stood very far away, shivering in fear. And they too got out on the next station.

Also there were 2 Muslim ladies (not Malaysians) wearing head scarf who got beaten up badly by several men in the metro yesterday, long after the metros started working again.

And an Uzbekistan man got punched in the face by some civilian.

Muslims in Moscow is now suffering the aftermath of yesterday's tragic incident.

Yeah... My class was canceled today since many of us live far away from Frunzenskaya.

Moscow Chaos

Just when I thought it was going to be a normal busy Monday, a chaotic situation hits Moscow. And just like the other Muscovites rushing to their classes or work places, I was rushing to class. I was already a bit late. But when I reached Baravidskaya, the metro station which everybody frequents since it is a changing line, the metro was closed. And many other metro users are piling up by the stairs leading to the other line (red line). Lucky me, I met fellow classmates there. I would be in a huge panic if I was alone.

Not knowing what had actually happened, the only thing in our minds was to find another way to get to class. The guards suggested that everybody uses Park Kultury metro to get to our destinations or to exit the metro system. But when I reached Serpuhovskaya(Brownline), it was a chaos as well. I was already panicking when I called my friends to inform that I might be late. And that was when I learned that there was a bombing in Lubianka's metro, just 2 metro stations away from where I was before. And when the guards suggested that we go to Park Kultury, nobody knew that there was going to be a 2nd bombing in Park Kultury station.

When my friends and I reached Park Kultury, we were ushered to the exit, where there were bomb squads, police and ambulances and fire-engines going around. Everybody that exited the metro was checked by the police using the batons that made sounds (I don't know what it's called, but you get what I mean...). We met other Malaysians outside the metro. And that was when we were told that there was a 2nd bombing just 30minutes ago in that metro station!! Boy, I was freaked out.

My friends and I went to walk down the street away from the scene. It's best to get as far as possible from places where an attack had happened. And also we were trying to think of the safest way to get home or to get to our university's main building or anywhere safe. The street was congested, no cars were allowed to pass..... we had no where to go. Tried calling other friends, hoping that they are safe, as well as to ask around for a way back home. But unfortunately, the network was very limited. Only when we were far enough from the scene, our cell phones worked.

So we went into a cafe and discussed there. Of course I had to buy something in order for us to sit there. And after finishing my breakfast set, the street had cleared up, there were less congestions. So we started finding our way out of the situation. And we managed to stop a cab. Thank Allah for saving us. The driver is a Muslim from Uzbekistan who drove us home safely with just minimal charges.

This is one scary experience. Alhamdullillah, God did not put us in a situation which could be worse than this.

The lost passion

I was once a passionate reader. Reading was my favorite pass time when I was in school. And I enjoyed reading all kinds of books. Let it be romance or triller, chick flick or horror, historical or sci-fiction... I loved them all. But the amount of fiction materials I read started to decrease when I entered college. And for some reason, I became even lazier to read once I entered meds school. To say that I absolutely have no time to spare is a lie. Because I do have free time in which I spent doing useless things hahaha... And my English skills and grammar isn't improving, if it is not worse.

So last week I reopened a book, Ken Follett's Dangerous Fortune, which I had left unfinished for almost a year. I only read a few chapters and I lost interest in it. Not because the book wasn't interesting, but because I became lazy. I remembered reading only one Ken Follett's novel when I was in first year, and that was it. After almost 2 years, I managed to finish another. Boy was I that lazy??

I guess now I finally found back my lost passion. I'm about to start a new book. Wish me luck in finishing it....

OK I don't know. I'm not really the alim kind. hahaha... And besides I fall in the group who can't fast, due to certain female's 'circumstances hehehe....

Despite the organizers telling me not to prepare anything and just bring my empty tummy, I just don't have the heart to go empty handed. So I brought a side-dish and dessert.

I made 2 large containers of orange flavored jelly with pineapple cubes. I'm glad they liked it.

And a simple side dish to add up to the the main menu. Credits to Iman who made the chili sauce.

I've been craving for hard boiled eggs since yesterday. And I ate a LOT today, including those I secretly stuffed in my mouth while I was pealing the egg shell. HAHAHA!!! I bet my cholesterol level is spiking by now.

I better start an oat diet tomorrow.... Hoping that none of the cholesterol managed to deposit on my vessel walls before I can encounter them with oats hahaha!!

Baking attempt - A disastrous experience

I can say that I'm rather good in cooking. I can cook quite a number of dishes, ranging from Malay to Chinese to Indian to Western food. Even some Korean dishes I had tried before was a very successful attempt.
But I never tried baking before. Yeah, I've made cookie-based cheese cake a couple of times, but that can hardly be called baking.

It's mud!
No! It's dung!
No! It's dirty sponge!
No!
It's Amy's burnt-choc-cake with the burnt top part being scrapped off, and with certain parts still uncooked

OMG this is so funny!! I don't know why I find it a funny experience. I'm even laughing while I type this line. HAHAHAHA!!!

A tiring day

Even as I was typing the title of this post entry, I was yawning.
*yawn* and there you go again....

It has been a long day. I had to go for a medical checkup today. Since we'll be doing hospital attachments in July, we students needed to be checked, in case we might be an asymptomatic carrier of certain disease hehehe... Well it's just a routine check, just to make sure that we are healthy to be dealing with patients later on.

Anyways, I had to be at the polyclinic early morning. And the our university's clinic is situated so far away from my hostel.
Also there will be other students, including the outpatients as well. So in order to avoid the congestion, we were advised to come earlier.

After my medical check up was done, I had to go to my Russian language class. It was fun, although I was tired and sleepy. My Russian teacher is super nice and cool. So I managed to stay awake through her class.

Came back at 6PM. I planned to take a nap after washing up and prayers, but then I thought about all the things I needed to do; complete pathology notes, study for pharmacology test, study for topography anatomy class...... *sigh* So I drank coffee and did my notes.

And now I'm trying to encounter pharmacology. I read 2 pages, and I yawned once every 2 minutes. I'm tired...........

Doing notes in the comforter. It's cold.
Oh God, I looked so messy.. haha

Freaked out. Scared. Uneasy. Restless.

Cardiologist's Funeral

I'm sure everybody wants to forever look young and be healthy. Let's try this drink of nature.
All you need to do is mix one tablespoon of honey with hot water. I usually squeeze a bit of lemon into my honey drink.

Honey lemon has been my daily drink for the past month. I fell sick recently, and my cough lasted almost 2 weeks. Although I was talking medicine, my cough wasn't coming to an end. So after having flu and coughing for a week, I tried the honey&lemon drink that my Russian teacher suggested quite sometime ago. And I got better after taking the drink 3 times a day. Well of course it was my body defense that was finally kicking in, but I'm sure the honey and lemon had help my body defense system to come to its senses that there were millions of microbes swimming freely in my blood that needed to be killed.

Anyways, after I got better, my told my mom what I tried. She said our family doctor also suggested the same drink when she couldn't take any antibiotics. And she told me to take honey daily. Honey was the one kept her looking young. She made honey as a sweetener in her milk and tea. And she has been doing so since she was young.
Here's the thing about my mom, she likes to brag to me about how people would always mistaken her to be in her early 40s, when she's already 50. HAHA.. well I do have to admit, my mother does look younger than her actual age.

Let's try this drink and make it a habit. But make sure you get the natural honey and not the one that had been mixed with sugar. Unlike natural honey, the honey that has been mixed with sugar will get frozen in the refrigeration. So make sure you buy the right ones OK

note : I don't know how far true about this little honey fact is, but according to many people, we are not advice to use a metal spoon when scooping honey or stirring our drink. There are certain chemical reactions that occurs when honey contacts with metal. I'm not very sure of this fact, but just to be safe, I use a plastic spoon to scoop my honey.

hehehe... as you all can see, I changed my blog layout. yes.yes. it looks a bit boring. but I feel that I need to make it simple, less clutter.
And I did learned a lot about editing html. I learned how to change the menu links (the blue thingy below blog title) according to how and what links I want it to open when anyone clicks it. I've also learned how to make a clickable picture so it will link to different profiles on different networks (as how I did for 'contact me')

hehe.. alright.. that's enough for now. time for studies ^_^

SPM results came out yesterday. And when my mom and brother messaged informing me the good news, I was still in slumberland. hahaha.. I had an afternoon class, and I slept late the night before because I had to study for the class.

Anyways, big CONGRATULATION to Danial for his achievements.

I knew he would do excellent in his studies. And I even think he's better than me.
When he was chosen to go to Japan last year for an excursion trip, I envied him. At the age of 17, he was chosen for a big event all because he excelled his Japanese exams. I wish I could get that opportunity.

However so, like others, he couldn't escape from the norm. And like any other younger siblings in any family, he was pressured being the younger one. hehehe...

But hey bro, you've proved youself to ma&pa that you could do great, even if you were playing dota all day. HAHAHAHA...

By the way, if anyone happen to notice some non-understandable words in red, don't have to ask. That's just B2ST's Shock playing in the background. Since I use minilyrics, the lyrics of songs automatically pops out when a song is being played. Yes, it is romanized. It's for me to be able to sing them (not that I have a lovely voice. I think my roomie is getting sick of my bad singing..hahahaha) because I can't read hangul that fast, when it's a fast song like Shock.

Another long lost friend found. Well she found me first actually. But it doesn't matter.. We found each other! How cool is that. We lost contact when she changed school during our primary 4... or was it primary 5?? hmmm.... I'm not quite sure. It has been more then 10 years ago. Partly it was my fault for not trying to find her after I finished school. I guess both had became busy with each others lives.

When she dropped me an email telling me who she is, and asking if I still remembered her, nothing rings a bell. I was like... errr... Fadzilah? Who?? I did once had a best friend who changed to another school. I can't remember her name tho. But when she sent me a photo of her, I jumped in joy. It is truly my long lost best friend from primary school. Judging by her looks, she hadn't change very much. Then flashes of memories replayed in my mind. All the fun we had, all the mischiefs we made when we were kids.... ahhh... precious memories. I'm really glad she found me after all these years.

If I could have a superpower, I would like to have the ability to
teleport myself. Wouldn't it be great to be able to transport myself across space and distance with a snap of a finger. No, I don't even need to snap my finger, just think about the place that I need to go to, and *poof* I'm there.

I was late for class today. Again... hahaha.. I forgot that it's the first day of the month and I had not topup my metro card. When I entered the metro door this morning, there were 2 very long queue at the ticket counter. But it didn't registered in my head that it could be the first day of the month, so I ignored the line. I was panicking because I was already late. When I touch my metro card at the sensor, it showed red. Silly me.

If only I have the power of teleportation, I wouldn't have to go into battle with fast walking Russians in metro stations or get squashed in between tall Russians in the metro or coming into class sweating and panting like mad or ....... OK I should stop watching sci-fi movies now

I can just laugh at all the mistakes and how dull I sounded as the MC for today's MIC futsal tournament. I told Annan that I'm really bad at these things, and I don't think I can pull it off right. But nooooo.... he didn't wanna listen and asked me to do it anyway.

Yeah, I suck at announcing through a speaker, moreover in front of a bunch of people, half of whom I don't know....

But it was kinda my fault for not putting my heart to it and trying to do the job as best as I could I almost felt sorry to those who had to endure all my announcements. HAHAHAHA! Sorry people. I'm just not made for public speaking or anything of these sort. Never was, never will.

What differ Russians from the rest

After waiting in line for quite some time, I finally got my fillet-o-fish and fries..... without my balance. The McD girl went on taking orders from the next customer.

Me: My balance??
McD girl: I didn't give it to you?
Me: No. (while shaking my head)
McD: (looking pissed off) Wait. I don't have small change.

I don't even know why she was looking so pissed. So I waited. And she asked her manager to give her small change, and attended to another two customers. It was fine that she forgotten to give me back my balance. Since there was so many people in line, and my fillet-o-fish took quite sometime to be ready. She must have forgotten about my balance when she went to attend to other people. But NOT once did she apologize, or even look guilty. It almost seemed like it was my fault and not hers.

My balance was just 24rubbles, which I couldn't really care much whether if I get it back. And because it took sometime, I was actually ready to leave. But looking at the girl's arrogant face, I changed my mind, and waited for my balance. I didn't care if it took long. All I know is that I didn't want to admit defeat or anything.

And when she finally gave me my balance, she gave it with an arrogant face. What a bitch!
But what more can I do. It's like an unwritten rule in Russia, where you can't be angry even if you have the right to be because you are a foreigner. My encounter today is just a mild case of Russians being the way they are. We were treated worse before.

This is what differs Russians from the rest of the Europeans. Other Europeans treats foreigners with respect and hospitality. But not most Russians. Nice Russians are 'scarce'.

Started our journey up towards Venice after buying some souvenirs in Piazza del Duomo. This is the square where the Leaning Tower of Pisa is situated.

Now that's something....

Reached Venice around 2PM. Venice is the capital city of Veneto region in Northern Italy. Had to park outside of the city since cars are not allowed on the street of Venice. Venice is so-called the city of water. So yes, they use boats and water taxis over there.

I find Venice very interesting and quiet. There are no motor vehicle on the street. I like this kind of serenity. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything much in Venice unless if we are willing to spend on theater and stuff like that. I would love to watch a theater performance and classical concerts, but I don't think the rest would be interested in those kind of stuff. Venice is popular with its performing arts. I'll definitely come again later in the future.

Had a short rest after checking into our hotel rooms.... oh wait, it was a long rest. Everyone was so tired because of the long walk we had to take from the car park to the hotel. It wasn’t easy finding our way along the allies of Venice. And besides, we all woke up super early that morning. We had to let the drivers have their rest.

It was already after dark when we left the hotel. Went to Hard Rock Cafe. Hehehe... another addition to my pin collection. Gosh, it was so cold that night. Hahaha... yeah, we all study in Moscow. But we didn’t expect it would be this cold. So we weren’t really prepared for the cold.

We took a lot of long exposure photos since there were beautiful lights around San Marco Square (Piazza San Marco). But most of them are kinda blurry. You can't expect us to stand perfectly still, holding our breaths for 5 or 10 seconds when it was so cold. We were practically shivering!

Had a late dinner at a pizzeria. We gobbled down pizzas and kebabs. hahaha.. Went back to the hotel straight after dinner. We couldn't stand the cold any longer.

"a great friend is like a good bra... hard to find, supportive, comfortable, always lifts you up, never lets you down or leaves you hanging and is always close to your heart."

It was a week ago when my best friend Syarifah messaged me asking if I had received any card. A card which should have reached my mail box (which is not exactly a mail box, it's a table where they dump every mail on. I'm living in a hostel, so go figure..haha) 3 weeks ago. Somehow the card reached me today. I wonder it it had gotten lost in the thick Russian snow LOL!!

As I set on my bed, still shivering a little from the cold... just got back from class, I opened the card. Started reading the long message inside.

Tears was already streaming down when I reached the 3rd sentance. And as I read along, flashes of the past replayed in my mind. It was like watching a happy+sad+funny+heartwarming movie. I read it once. And then again. And another time. I think I'll read it again before going to bed today. And the days ahead too.

I had a wonderful life living with my 3 bestest best friend. And the 2 years of my college life was the best moments in the 23 years of my life. I remembered all the fun we had together. All the laughter we had. All the singing, dancing, fooling around. All the new things we tried. I also remembered all the bickerings, the bitching, the misunderstandings..... the bitter part. And if I could turn back in time, I wouldn't change a thing. Even the bitter moments seems like a sweet one. And somewhat a laughing matter now. And because we got through the bitterness together, we became wiser, our friendship grew stronger. We forgave and forget, and we stayed best friends.

At times I felt that destiny has not been on our side. Destiny was what brought us together. But it also broke us apart, seperated us in space and time, even sent me and Dila to different continents! I was the first to leave. And only God knows how hard it was on me when I was all alone, far away from my 3 favorite girls. And how I cried every night, blaming fate and blaming myself. But I grew stronger, wiser, independent, capable.... And I know all of us did.
Now each of us is leading our own different lives, having different sets of new friends, being in different surroundings. But my only hope is that we'll never ever forget each other.

To Syarifah, Dila & Ikha.....
You girls made me who I am today. I love you girls a lot. Missing you girls terribly now.

Let's make a promise that we'll always be in each others' hearts and minds, even just for a second of everyday.

my flu just got better

We left Florence at around 6AM. Yes, you heard me right... 6 in the morning, when Florence was still asleep. Why? Well we didn't want to spend money to park our car in a garage, so we parked it out in the street. It's fine for the first day, since it was a Sunday. But the locals told us to move our car on Monday before 6AM or else it'll be towed. And besides, the boys wanted to take pictures in the nice morning sun....

None of we girls get to put on make up or blow our hair. I couldn't be bothered by the way I look. Too sleepy to care. And I fell asleep in the car as soon as I got into it, until we reached the Pisa. Although I felt very bad for the the driver, I just couldn't help it. Loads of thanks to Walai and Pdas for driving us all.

To my girlfriend Nad.....

Do you still remember how we met? We were roomies. And you were the first person who came to talk to me. Then we became friends and got close with each other. And like other people, we had our ups and downs. We did had quite some fights and misunderstandings back when we were in school. But I can't remember all those. The only moments I do remember was the fun times we had together. You were and awesome person, and you still are.

Left Rome in the morning of 23rd January. Went to terminal to pick up our rental car first. I was kinda sad to leave Rome. I really like Rome and its people. Romans are very welcoming; unlike some places I’ve been.... hehehe... I’m sure those studying with me understands what I’m saying here.
Rome was really nice. And it’s WARM during the day, even in winter!!! Another reason to love Rome. And besides, I like ancient stuff hihihi....

On our way to Florence, we stopped by at some beach. It was beautiful. I couldn't remember the name of the beach tho... all I remember was that we took loads of pictures in a rather short time. hahaha!! This shows that we are great at posing for a camera.

Italy is a bit weird. There are certain rules that outside cars need to abide by the traffic control rules or something. Since our rental car is registered in Rome, we can't enter Florence’s traffic control zone before 7PM. Therefore we made many pit stops and drove slowly.
Florence was just OK. It wasn’t as interesting as Rome. But I’m sure art lovers would love Florence.

Apparently, this old bridge that spans the Arno River is very famous in Florence.... hmmmm... why didn't I find it so facinating?

Saw this cute alphabet chu chu train. Exactly like the one we saw in Rome while we were following the tours, but when we went back to buy them after the tour ended, the guy was no where to be seen... Glad that we found these here as well.

Was annoyed by the 2 arab guys who were selling the train thingy. They seemed like they have no idea about doing business. They were so confused about how much was paid, and our balance. We even had to demand our own balance... Notice that I was counting my money, in case they returned me a wrong amount

We went to the Mall later that day. The Mall is where they send all the last-season's designer goods and all were being sold at half price. And while Eqa went to get herself a Gucci purse, the boys played with their girfriends...... I mean their Nikons.

Despite all the designer brands in The Mall, I found a Diesel and Miss Sixty store. Somehow a Diesel is a low class brand in Malaysia, and the designs... urghhh... a thumbs down. But in Europe it seems like a good brand and is rather expansive. So I bought myself this...

No way I could find this kind of Diesel boots and this design in Malaysia. So I really do like it.

Visited Rome Stadium in the morning. But unfortunately, it is close to the public when there are no matches. The stadiums in Italy are not like the stadiums in UK where it is open for tours and stuff. Anyways, we did took loads of pictures. hihi..

Rushed to Spagna (again.....for the last time) for a 11AM Vatican City tour. This last tour guide was really good. She explained everything in detail. So yeah, the tour was so much longer then the last 2 we had. But I liked the tour, it was very informative. The guide brought us to see the emperor's mausoleum, Sant Angelo Castle and something else which I can't remember what it was called, before bringing us to Vatican City.

Took loads of pictures.... as usual. I wanted to enter Sistein Chapel, because Michelangelo and other great Renaissance artists painted the ceiling of the chapel. But unfortunately, we had to rush to Palatine Hill. In winter the museums closes at 4PM. So only Ann went to enter Sistein Chapel, and the rest of us went to Palatine Hill.

I never knew that Vatican City is actually a whole country by its own. And it was then that I learned that Vatican City is the smallest country in the world, ruled by the Popes.

Palatine Hill is where the Emperor’s palace wass back in the ancient days. It was vast!!! I got so tired walking around the palace grounds, as well as the Roman Forum (something like today’s parliament house). I felt astonished as I roam around the palace. Only then I realized how amazing and powerful the Roman empire was.

Boy it was so windy at the top. And not to mention cold...!!

Beautiful isn't it? Imagine how magnificent it was in the ancient Rome when the palace walls were still covered with thick marbles. Now, only the inner walls remain standing and pieces of marble that once covered the whole palace scattred around the palace grounds.

After some rest, the boys headed out again to the AS Roma store. We girls stayed in the apartment. My leg felt like it was gonna come off.
